The most important command!

The most important command!

When one of the law teachers came to Jesus and asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus replied,  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). Jesus said in brief what God expects from us the most.

I used to think about what it is to love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. There is a change in this commandment mentioned in the new testament. In Deuteronomy 6:5, we read God saying, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”  Jesus added mind to it. We are expected to love God with all that we are and all that we have. This helps in changing our perspective. When we learn to love God with all that we have, we learn to say, “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long,” even in the most challenging situations.

That’s how apostle Paul viewed every trouble he faced in his life. He keeps in mind the “glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:17). Even believers who love God with all their heart and prays continually sometimes lack faith and doubt God during troubles. We must remember that we love Him because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19).
