Scripture: Joshua 1:1-18
(Please read the above scripture passage before you read this devotion to allow God to speak to you).
Recently, someone asked me, “How come Rahan, the prostitute, got a place in Jesus’ genealogy?” The Faith she had in the God of Israel(v.11) saved her (Hebrews 11:31; 1:5). Even we are saved by such Faith, right?
The Faith that was confessed openly (verses 9-14):
Many who heard of what God did to the Israelites hardened their hearts (Exodus 8:15,19). But Rahab trusted God. And she did not hide her Faith. She openly confessed it. Even Ruth confessed the same way (Ruth 1:1). Do you remember what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:32? “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. Today, find chances to confess your Faith!
The Faith that led to action (verses 4-7; 17-21):
Rahab did not just confess her Faith. She knew Faith is made complete by actions (James 2:20-22). That’s why she acted upon her Faith. We need to exercise our Faith not in the easiest situations but in the most challenging situations. (2 Kings 20:8-11).
The Faith that kept growing (verses 12,13):
God expects from us only a mustard-sized faith in us (Matthew 17:20). But that can make a huge difference. Instead of stopping within her, Rahab dared to bring her entire family into God’s protection. Women like Rahab, whom we don’t accept, can have greater Faith in Jesus (Matthew 21:28-32). We should pray for people like Rahab to experience God’s love and salvation.
What kind of Faith is yours?
Dear God,
Please help me to have Faith that I can do more extraordinary things. Amen!
