Scripture: Joshua 1:1-18
(Please read the above scripture passage before you read this devotion to allow God to speak to you).
Children usually cry on the first day of their school in fear of separation from parents. Even older people fear, right? When we go to a new place or start a new job, we fear thinking how it will be. Even Joshua feared! In Jeremiah 1:4-10 we read how Jeremiah feared when God called him. Moses experienced the same fear, too! When they were given a new responsibility, they stressed. But we should know that God strengthens us, and we need not worry. We should remember that we are not alone in such a situation!
The Call of Jeremiah4 The Word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6 “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” 7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. 9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” |
God is with us (verses 5,9):
Joshua, disturbed by Moses’ separation, was encouraged when God said, “I will be with you.” He is the God who was with those who lived before us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He will be with us until the very end of the world.
God’s Word will lead us (verses 7,8):
God’s Word gives us the directions in our personal and professional life. We should obey the Word of God in every situation. We should meditate on it every day and follow it in our daily lives.
Deuteronomy 5:32-33 32 So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. |
There are people to help us (verses 10-18):
Officers of the people, Ruben, Manasseh, and Gad tribes, came forward to cooperate with Joshua. Other tribes helped in obtaining the promised land. You can read it in detail in Numbers 32:16-32.
When we are called to do anything for God, He prepares us. He takes away our fears. He prepares the situations, too!
Are you afraid of going into a new situation alone? Remember, God has promised to be with you.
Dear God,
Lead me when I am filled with worries, loneliness, and fear. Amen!
