Today’s verse: Matthew 10:42
And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”
Scripture: Matthew 10: 34 – 42
One who decides to get into ministry must be ready to accept whatever situation that he/she is going to face. In today’s passage, we shall see what it is to be a disciple.
Life of dedication (verse 34-36):
Although we talk a lot about unity, a sense of division is always there. In this passage, we see a partition or peacelessness when one accepts Jesus as Messiah. When we turn to be a disciple of God, we experience division in our families. Discipleship is dedicating oneself to expecting nothing in return. These divisions are nothing when compared to the division that we will be facing during God’s Judgement day.
Life of love (verse 37-39):
We see worldly devotees giving their lives for their master/leader although he/she finds no use in doing that. But we who follow the True Leader should be ready to give our lives to Him first and keep everything else besides. When we do that we receive eternal life as a reward. We see the ones who wanted to bury their father and inform to family were denied of being His disciple in Luke 9:57-62.
Life of blessing (verse 40-42):
A disciple is a representative of God. So accepting His disciple means accepting God Himself. Hence he/she will receive the reward for it. We read in Bible about the ones who opposed the servants of God like Moses (Numbers 16:1-35), Elijah (2 Kings 2:23-25), etc., When we give to God or to God’s disciple we receive the reward for it (verse 42). For some giving itself becomes a ministry (Hebrews 13: 1- 3).
Remember,
Although the life of a disciple is of persecution and trouble, the reward for it is eternal life!
