Today’s verse: Matthew 15:28
Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.”
Scripture: Matthew 15: 21-28
Jesus dealt with the sicknesses of different people in different ways. In today’s passage, He tests the faith of the ones He healed. Let us see why!
How is your faith?
When Jesus departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon with His disciples, a woman of Canaan came from the region asking to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Here Jesus wanted to test if the confession that came from the mouth of the woman as “Son of God” was out of faith! We have heard, seen, and experienced a lot. Yet is our faith strong? Or are we getting tired when we don’t receive an answer immediately? Our God is not a God who wants to see us suffer. Sometimes He delays to strengthen our faith!
What was the result?
What answer did Jesus give? (verse 24). The woman begged for her daughter’s healing. Yet Jesus did not reply immediately instead tested her faith. She did not misperceive when Jesus compared her to a dog instead she humbled herself and accepted it. Just like how dogs eat the bread crumbs that fall from the table, she asks for at least a part of the blessings that were kept for Israelites (His people). Jesus appreciated that her faith was great! Her daughter was healed immediately as she wished. Although things weren’t favorable to her in the beginning, we see that the ending was favorable to her.
If we stay strong in our faith and humble ourselves seeking His mercy, God will definitely honor our faith too!
Remember,
If your faith is being tested, your blessings will be worth the patience!
Dear God,
Strengthen my faith and help me to have patience during my waiting period. Amen.
