Today’s verse: Matthew 6:6
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Scripture: Matthew 6: 1-15
In Matthew 6th chapter, Jesus Christ talks about some of the pitfalls that a Christian faces in his/her life because of fulfilling religious obligations for namesake, getting affected by worldly things, and worrying. Of this, I will share about two important things in today’s writing.
How to give? (verse 1-4):
We help the needy people, give donations to churches and Christian organizations and so many other things. But how do you do it? Are you bragging about it to everyone? Are you making sure if that one particular person knows about it? If you are doing so, that is not how you should do it! When you do that way, you do not receive any reward from God. That particular person knowing about it becomes the reward for you. In this passage, Jesus tells us that when you do a charitable deed, do not brag about it or do not try to get people’s attention to it, rather do it secretly and God will reward you for that.
How to pray? (verse 5-15):
1. Do not pray like hypocrites:
Prayer should be our lifestyle. The relationship that you have with God and the prayers you do shouldn’t be something that brings people’s attention to you. The relationship that you have with God is like the root of a tree. A root is always hidden. But the stronger the root is, the nourished the tree will be. When your root i.e. relationship with God is strong, your life will be nourished!
When the root is visible outside, it can damage the relationship with God and even destruct the relationship with God.
2. Pray secretly:
Our prayer life should have a connection with God who sees our secrets. When you keep your prayer life simple and secret instead of keeping it more worldly, He will reward you openly. Keep it simple and secret!
3. What should you pray?
You will be able to pray only when you have the right relationship with God. Jesus shows us a modal prayer and you can follow that in your prayer.
Keep praising God.
Pray for your needs.
Repent from your sins and ask for forgiveness.
Pray for the glory of His Kingdom.
To receive answers for your prayers, forgive people before you pray!
Remember,
What our Father in heaven thinks of you is more important than what others think of you.
Father,
Correct my intentions and actions in the secret to receive answers in open. Amen!
