Today’s verse: Matthew 18: 1-14
… unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Scripture: Matthew 18: 1-14
Everybody yearns to become a person with a better position in society. We see a lot of fights, jealousy, and enmity amongst people to reach such a position. This happened even with the disciples. Let’s meditate on what Jesus answers them.
Humble yourself like a little child (verse 1-5):
If you notice little children, they don’t like to be introduced as talented ones in front of others even if they are talented. We should also stop the desire of letting others know of our talents and trying to earn fame with that. Jesus says that whoever humbles himself is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. We should also have the same thought (Philippians 2:5-11). We should remember that pride makes us fall (Isaiah 14:12-15).
Accept little children (verse 6-9):
We should not ignore little children; instead, we should accept them without any partiality (James 2:1-7). We should never be a blockage in their lives. Parents promise that they won’t be a blockage in their children’s life when they dedicate them to the church. But many times, parents become blockage by words and actions to their kids. We see Jesus condemning such people in verse 6.
Do not consider little children as unimportant (verse 10-14):
1. We see politicians having black cats knowing their importance and for their security. But imagine each child has angels interceding for them in heaven. How important they are! Hence they are precious in the sight of God. 2. God doesn’t wish the little ones to perish or go astray (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9). Heaven rejoices even for one small soul, right!
Remember that we should have the childlike intention at the same time we should not become childish.
Dear God,
Help me to possess childlike nature and prepare me for the Heavenly kingdom. Amen!
