Whose side are you on?

Whose side are you on?

Scripture: Psalms 73

When the internal war was at its peak in The United States of America, one of the advisors of then President Abraham Lincoln said, “I am grateful because God is on ‘our side.'” But Lincoln replied, My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.

This statement of Lincoln is challenging when we think God is by our side with our plans, visions, decisions, and desires. The above statement makes me question whether even the best decisions will please God. When the psalmist says, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 129:23,24),” it is clear that he wants to be on God’s side. When we follow the psalmist and say, But as for me, it is good to be near God (Psalm 73:28), we can be assured that His ways are always righteous. Because Holy Spirit helps us with every decision and thought of ours, we can be sure that we are on God’s side.

Today, let us ask ourselves if we are on God’s side. We can be sure that we are on God’s side when we show God’s love to others. Forgive, lead in a straight path, seek peace, and remember that God’s way is always the best.
