What leads you?

Today’s verse: Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Scripture: Matthew 15:1-20

In today’s world, it has become important to follow the culture than the Law. But let’s see what God has for those who follow Him?

What is important? Culture or the Law? (verse 1-9):

Instead of preaching to honor the parents, the Pharisees preached that if you give your offerings, you need not honor or help your parents. Jesus condemned this (verse 6). When we give importance to our culture it defiles the Law of God. Jesus pinpoints what the prophet quoted about the people who give praise offerings from the mouth but has no place for God in the heart (verse 8,9).

The Pharisees find fault when the disciples violated the culture (verse 2). But Jesus said, to eat with an unwashed hand does not defile a man (verse 20). And He stresses that it is important to follow the Law of God than the culture that was created by man.

What defiles a man? (verse 10-20):

Food that goes into the mouth doesn’t defile a man. But what comes from the heart through the mouth defiles a man. What are the sins that come from a heart? (verse 19,20) & (Galatians 5:16-24). These sins separate man from God. That is why Jesus insists that these sins defile a man. The Pharisees who preached unwanted things instead of preaching what is necessary are compared to the blinds that lead the blind.

Jesus is our way, His words are the light to our path. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can understand the depth of the word of God and obey it.

Remember,
If you give importance to the law of God you will be able to fulfill the law of man as well!

Dear God,
Give me the grace to understand Your Word and follow it in my day-to-day life. Amen.
