A few days ago, I was reading children’s story books with my little cousin, and then I told her we would read youth books and share our opinions about the books. So I gave her a book, opened another book for me, and read it silently. She gave me a doubtful look in a few minutes and asked, “Are you really reading the book?” Since I was reading silently, she thought I was just acting and not reading the book.
Just like how we read books silently, our prayers could be silent too. We see in the above verse that Hannah desperately wanted to have a child and prayed silently in her heart about it. Her lips moved, but her voice was not heard (1 Samuel 1:13). Eli saw what was happening but misunderstood Hannah. Hannah explains, saying, “I have poured out my soul before the Lord.” (1 Samuel 1:15). As we all know, God heard Hannah’s prayer and gave her a baby boy (v.20).
Jeremiah 17:10 says, “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways.” So we can be sure that God hears every petition and supplication. He not only hears it but observes them carefully. Sometimes even when our prayer doesn’t come out as words, He still listens to it and answers. One of God’s attitudes is, ‘He is an all-knowing God.’ This attribute assures us that God listens to us and stimulates us to pray (Matthew 6:8,32). So we can continuously praise, pray and thank God for all the blessings He showers upon us. If you think nobody hears me, remember God knows your heart, and He is carefully listening to you.
Amen and Amen!
